Kimberly E. Springle
Kimberly E. Springle is an Historian, Cultural Preservationist and Entrepreneur. Her research interests include 20th Century African American History, the history of public education, and capturing the untold stories of lesser known contributors to society.
For the past 15 years, Kimberly has served as the Executive Director of the Charles Sumner School Museum and Archives, the official museum and repository for DC Public Education. In her capacity, she is the steward of the 150 year old historic school site and serves as the Historian and Archivist for the DC Public School System. Kimberly is also the Founder and Principal of GTMS Legacy Enterprises LLC, serving communities and individuals nationwide in preserving their cultural assets and lecturing on topics related to history and cultural heritage.
Kimberly is passionate about educating the public about Washington DC’s rich history and culture and has been credited with transforming and shaping the Sumner Museum into the cultural gem that it is today, highlighting the pride and legacy of DC Public Schools. She also assists researchers and visitors from all over the country and many parts of the world and produces a variety of public and educational programs to further engage the broader community of all ages with the Museum’s mission and collections.
Over her 20 plus years career in the museum field, Kimberly has worked with various cultural institutions including the Smithsonian, National Museum of American History and Lord Cultural Resources, a Canadian-based museum consulting firm. She is a founder of Friends of Sumner 501c3 Organization and currently serves as an Ex-Officio member of the board of directors. Kimberly is an active member of multiple museum and public history professional organizations and served as the Program Co-Chair for the National Council on Public History 2022 Annual Meeting and currently serves as a member of the Development Committee. She is President of the DC State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, which promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education worldwide.
Kimberly earned her Master of Arts Degree in History Museum Studies from State University of New York, Oneonta, Cooperstown Graduate Program and was honored as a 2020 Alumni of Distinction. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with a Minor in African American Studies from College of Charleston, Charleston, SC. She is a proud native of Greenville, South Carolina.
